Spring is here!

I promise I shall post photos and tales of my time in Melbourne soon - but there's just so many photos to sort through. I think I will wait till the weekend to do it.

Today was a stunner of a day in the weekend, the sun was shining and it was generally fabulous. It just brings a smile to my face.

This weekend is the 70th Anniversary of the NZ Navy (yes! NZ is such a young country our navy is only 70 years old), so a lot of NZ Navy ships are in Wellington Harbour for a celebration day on Sunday. There are also open days for a lot of the ships over the weekend.

Seen as it was such a stunner of a day Rich and I went to check out the warships in the harbour.

We also met this little seal on our walk - isn't it cute!

Wednesday Wardrobe Challenge - Poka-dots

Please excuse these photos - I am EXTREMELY sleepy in all of them! Usually I don't have any trouble readjusting to time difference, but for some reason this time I am exhausted! Maybe its because daylight savings started whilst I was visiting Australia.

Today's wardrobe challenge was poka-dots, which is another fairly easy challenge as I have a few frocks which are poka-dot. I am not sure I like the upper part of the frock - I think maybe I should alter it.
Here's a close up of the fabric - but its a little blurry - sorry folks.
Gold shoes and bright blue tights - I love this combination.

I like these big "pearls" but I don't wear them too much.

I am SO tired!! I really need to have an early night tonight!

Cardy: Op Shopped, Opportunity for Animals, Kilbirnie

Check out my guest blog post!

Hello lovelies! Thanks to all of those who comments on my last post - your comments really made my day.

I am now back from my holiday to Melbourne and I have so much to tell and show you.

But I am a little tired right now and I am waiting for Rich to return home (he should be here shortly).

So instead of a Melbourne Post, I thought I would invite you all to check out my guest blog post over on KC's blog - A Sparkly Silver Lining. Whilst you are there you can check out posts about other New Zealand cities and also check out photos of KC's amazing baking!

I will return soon xoxox

I'm off to Melbourne today!

Well later on today I am off Melbourne which I am REALLY excited about - the last time I was there in 2008 and I have decided its my favourite Australia city (although I have only visited three cities in Australia).

So you most likely won't hear from me until next Tuesday or Thursday - but before I leave I want to share a few photos of things that we have seen or done recently.

Fire dancers at the Petone Carnival

Petone Pier at night with pretty lights.

South African cultural festival in Civic Square - the guys drumming are incredible!

This gold painted rugby player is "Baz" and he's been turning up all over town - he told me he likes my hair. He has exceptionally good taste.

We finally got to waka for the wharewaka on our waterfront.

Rich did a jumping photo too!

One of the stores in town is having a really amazing exhibition - if you see a photo you like in the window it can be all yours! All you need to do is do something kind for someone else, go into the store and write down what you did and they will give you a pretty picture. Fabulous!

Nyan Cat! He was on the window of my hair dressers and yes he's in post it form.

Finally, last night Rich and I were luckily enough to go to the opening night of the "Reel Brazil" film festival. We received a little pack when we entered which included a Brazilian Music CD. The evening also included a band, canap├ęs and cocktails. The opening film was "The Story of Me". If you live in Wellington this film is well worth watching - its sad at times but its pretty incredible.

Have a great weekend all!

Wednesday Wardrobe Challenge - Brooches

Todays Wednesday Wardrobe Challenge is an easy one for me - wear a brooch. I have a whole bunch of brooches so decided to wear one I don't wear very often.

I worn my plainest dress - so decided that I needed to wear bright pink stockings and sparkly pink shoes.

Here's a close up of the brooch I wore - my mum's friend used to have an antique store and this brooch is from that store. I really like it but I hardly ever wear it - I don't know why!
Here's a close up of my scarf - it has birds and flowers and all kinds of pretty things all over it.

Finally a close up of the ring I wore today - green animal print *rawr*
Outfit Deets:

Dress & Cardy - Op shopped - Opportunity for Animals - Kilbirnie
Scarf - Bought in Uijeongbu, South Korea
Brooch - From my mum's friends (now closed) antique store
Tights - The Warehouse
Shoes - Number 1 Shoe Warehouse
Ring - Bought On-line (I can't remember where)

My Weekend - So much to do!

Hello all and thanks so much for your lovely comments about my first ever frock - it just inspires me to make more things. Yah!

Last weekend was pretty busy, but in the best way possible, so much happening around town seen as the weather is getting better. Also lots of Rugby World Cup events happening around town.

Saturday was an absolute stunner of a day! In the afternoon, Rich and I went to check out the Old Government Buildings. They were having an open day and a couple of tours during the day so we decided to go and have a look around.

The tour of the inside of the building was really interesting but took a LONG time, the chap that took us around was clearly very passionate about New Zealand history and architecture. Which being a history geek - I can relate too!

They had a room set up as an old office and Queen Vic was on the wall - I can't even image anyone having a photo of Queen Elizabeth on their walls now (and I am a public servant). I do always love pics of Queen Vic though - even though she looks so stern, there is something likeable about her.
I really love this lion, apparently he used to be on the top of the emblem of the building, he's an original from 1876 (which is SUPER old by NZ standards). He was replaced at some stage and the original was found in the building when they did restoration in the 1990's.We also got to have a look under the building, I always love doing this when I go on tours of buildings. We got to see all the old piles as well as the new earthquake strengthening stuff. Building geekery!

On Sunday morning, Rich and I decided to go for a walk on the waterfront and see what what happening. With the world cup happening at the moment, there is always something fun to see or do.

We didn't have to walk far until we found this NZ on Screen exhibition in a shipping container. The exhibition celebrates NZ television and film and it was a lot of fun checking out some stuff that was a real "blast from the past".

This "scene stealer" was pretty cool - you could "put" yourself into your favourite TV show/Movie and then e-mail the image to your account. Rich added himself to Smash Palace - if you haven't seen Smash Palace, you REALLY need to, its an amazing film.

This screen was playing a number of New Zealand Short Films - you could choose from the list on the left and the nice folks at the display would play it for you. So here's my screen stealer moment - if you grew up in NZ in the 1980s/1990s you will know Jason and Thingee well. I always wanted to be on Jason and Thingee show when I was a kid - better late than never!

We walked along a bit further and found this! Its a chocolate cafe/bus - pretty fancy, its from Christchurch. Rich and I had hot chocolates, the cup I am holding in the picture may look tiny, but this hot chocolate is so rich that it wouldn't really want to drink much more.

Just a few more photos of our afternoon at the waterfront - I hope you guys don't get tired of these waterfront photos, its pretty much my favourite place in the city so we always end up spending a lot of time there.

Hope you all had a fabulous weekend!
